Sermon Series
Following Jesus is more than just knowing His teachings or learning His commands. It's about heeding His Words, obeying His voice, and surrendering our will to His. As disciples of Christ, we are called to truly obey Him with our hearts and actions. It’s about doing what He asks, not just knowing about it.
Learning about God’s commands but not applying it in life is like having vital medication by your bedside when you are critically ill but never actually consuming it. You may understand the importance of the medication and how vital it is for your recovery, but if you never consume it, no change happens in your situation. Spiritually, this can lead to feeling stuck, frustrated, or even distant from God because knowledge alone doesn’t transform us. Our journey with Jesus is not just about learning, it’s about living out what we learn, so our hearts and lives reflect Christ’s love and truth. As James 1:22-25 states,
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
We have entitled our new sermon series, Follow Jesus: Heeding His Words. Heeding the Words of Christ is important because it helps us make better choices every day. When we listen to His teaching and follow His commands, we learn how to love others, forgive, grow in godly character, and stay strong in difficult times. By applying His teachings, we grow in faith, experience His presence more deeply, and live in a way that reflects His love to the world around us.
This journey of obedience is not always easy, but it's where true transformation takes place. When we choose to obey Christ's commands, we open ourselves up to the power of the Holy Spirit, who enables us to live out our faith in practical ways. We start to view our lives, relationships, and the world around us in the perspective of God's kingdom.
Come and journey with us as we grow in our obedience to the Word of God through this sermon series. May we be challenged to move beyond mere knowledge and into wholehearted obedience, so that we might experience the transformative power of Christ in our lives.
